Dave Brubeck
Remembering the Sound
A LIFE BEHIND THE KEYS - In the sense that improvisational jazz and progressive jazz have the role they do today in the world of jazz and that one individual can take a leadership or mentor's role in a generation, Dave Brubeck, was this man and Jazz was his art. Brubeck, who passed away yesterday (just a day before his 92nd birthday) was a musician's pianist. He changed the way American's heard their music - influencing countless others and changing the way the world looks at Jazz. I listened to him quite a bit this year, picking up the Dave Brubeck Octet's limited Record Store Day album and smiling all the while. He made music right up until the end. And what a life it was! RIP
