Remy Zero's Cinjun Tate

BAND ON THE RUN - It's been almost 7 long years since Los Angeles' Remy Zero stopped playing music together. The band surged to the forefront of popularity following their stint as the opening band for Radiohead on The Bends tour in 1995. Since that time, Remy Zero attained a level of commercial success rarely seen by band who have only released three albums. Much of this can be credited to lead singer Cinjun Tate's memorable voice and the knack the band had for churning out fan-friendly one-hits used in film and television. The most recognizable of these songs is the familiar "Save Me" track used by the WB network as the theme song for their "Smallville" program. Save this one! [ed's note: * = Best of Set]

Loved this band since I was a kid. Ive two of their albums. They actually recorded a couple of new songs last year but never officially got back together. I'm sad to see that not much has been going on with Cinjun and Shelby's band Spartan Fidelity the last few years and their Excavation Records label has been down for a long while. Maybe they couldn't make enough money :(

Their album was really great so I encourage anyone to find some way to buy it and support them.

I was just looking around and found out their drummer, Greg Slay, passed away this year. And Cinjun & Shelby were touring Japan last year not as Spartan Fidelity but as "Cinjun Tate of Remy Zero.".

Well that is a promising development - and a promising one of there could be the hope of a resurrected Remy Zero (at least in some form) in the weeks and months that follow. Even if none of the originals, save Tate, are involved, a Cinjun Tate-led excursion of the band's songs would be a win for fans.

Put it this way - if Evan Dando is somehow allowed by the cosmos to reform the Lemonheads without the other founding members, one can hardly expect Tate to set in the bench. That's just the way I see it, anyway.

And if Greg Slay is, indeed, dead - I am sorry to hear it. RIP.

On Jan 1st 2010, Remy Zero drummer Gregory Slay passed away from cystic fibrosis. A Memorial Celebration is planned: Sat, May 22nd (8pm) at the House of Blues New Orleans (225 Decatur Street)
