Red Wire Black Wire at the Middle East
CAN'T DEFUSE THIS ONE: There has been a lot of underground buzz around tonight's headlining act at the Middle East Upstairs... Brooklyn 5 piece Red Wire Black Wire make bombastic, modern noise - cut from the same cloth as MGMT and Passion Pit. But where they are different makes them new: behind the synth driven pop, this band have added a different, more melancholy, element into the mix. Vocalist Doug Walters seems like an amped version of Jason Lytle (from the seminal Grandaddy), singing with sadness even when the beats are massive and compelling.
This stylistic blend is proven to work on Red Wire Black Wire's 2008 EP Compass. We know the band is working on a new video which should be ready very soon - let's hope this is an attempt to shoehorn them into a new, full-length album!
The Bands: Red Wire Black Wire (NYC) appear tonight with locals Franklin Kite (CD Release) and Lagoon. Violet Kin are from Canada. Lineup order, directions, tickets and more at Mideastclub.com
