Stevie Wonder on Sesame Street - 1972

1.3 Million Views! I posted this video just 16 months ago and this clip has been enjoyed by 1,302,000 music enthusiasts from around the world. This funked out cut is righteous and that's a beautiful thing!

Whenever anyone asks me what I like to listen to when I get stressed or catch a case of the blues... I often will tell them Stevie Wonder. It just doesn't get a better than Stevie Wonder. Period. The quick fix - and the best music video I have ever seen - is this utterly incredible clip of Stevie Wonder and his band playing Sesame Street in '72.


Watch the video and check these cats out. Utterly insane. I challenge you to name one musician or group better than this today. Don't hold your breath.

That was great. Sesame Street is a can't miss for musicians.

I like the recent performance by James Blunt, in which he teaches all of us about triangles.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think I saw this when it was first one--I would've been six in 1972, and probably didn't miss much on Sesame Street, and very vaguely remember this black guy playing piano and singing stuff very different from what my parents listened to (no, neither my musical tastes nor anything else was very developed at that point). Well, now at least, I can appreciate it as I didn't then....

Do you happen to know if anyone has the audio from Stevie's Sesame Street funkafied status?

Totally concur on the level of talent. It would be impossible to find anyone remotely as talented today.

I think the trumpet player is not Bernie Manning, but Steve Madaio. Madaio played on the original track. There's a picture of him here:

Are you sure ther bassist is not Nathan Watts? He played on a lot of Stevie's records. Also, (and I might be wrong), but is that not Skunk Baxter on the Tele?
